Documentaries

We have listed some inspiring documentaries that you can ingest at your own pace. Many are available on Netflix or YouTube and some on the internet as direct feeds.

If you new new to WFPB or haven’t even got there yet, I can only encourage you to watch them and absorb their content. Take away what you will.

We watched the likes of Cowspiracy many years ago and our takeaway then was to significantly reduce our meat consumption. In watching it a number of years later and then in conjunction with What the Health, Forks Over Knives and Gamechangers we took more away. That was when for your health, our children’s health and the planets health we started following a WFPB diet. We then went on to associate as vegan because it was just easier.

The Game Changers

Directed by Oscar®-winning documentary filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, and Chris Paul, The Game Changers tells the story of James Wilks — elite Special Forces trainer and The Ultimate Fighter winner — as he travels the world on a quest to uncover the optimal diet for human performance.

Dominion

WARNING – This movie is graphic and is not for the faint hearted, truth is often confronting

Dominion uses drones, hidden and handheld cameras to expose the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture, questioning the morality and validity of humankind’s dominion over the animal kingdom. While mainly focusing on animals used for food, it also explores other ways animals are exploited and abused by humans, including clothing, entertainment and research.

Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Sia, Sadie Sink and Kat Von D, and co-produced by Earthlings creator Shaun Monson. Filmed in Australia, with a global message.

When biologist Alexandra Morton discovers salmon in BC are testing positive for dangerous European viruses, a chain of events is is set off by government to suppress these findings. Tracking viruses, Morton moves from courtrooms into British Columbia’s most remote rivers, Vancouver grocery stores and sushi restaurants.

It can be quite hard to find these days but searching around it can usually be found on YouTube or similar services.

Seaspiracy

Released in 2021, this is at times a confronting look at the depletion of the worlds oceans with overfishing a topic not being addressed adequately by any one nation. Although critical of “sustainable aquaculture” it is a realistic representation of the current world wide situation.

As with any food and environmental commodity in the world, supply cannot continue to rise, and without management the industry will come crashing down. Many corporations will have made their money and will move on but we as people of the world will be living with the consequences.
