How did we end up here….

Let’s not kid ourselves, well I’m not kidding myself. I know how I got here, I wasn’t force fed or not allowed to do exercise. I knew that allot of my choices weren’t the greatest ones.

However with a bad family history, where you think your fate is pre-determined and you have literally seen all of your aunts and uncles on one side of the family have at least one major cardiac episode, you are probably not alone in thinking that you don’t have a choice. That’s what I thought.

Outcome, destiny, call it what you will but I had it locked in from my mid-late 20’s that I WOULD, ONE DAY HAVE A CARDIAC EPISODE, that wasn’t a MIGHT have, it was a WILL have

As someone that was overweight and had cholesterolaemia, hypertension and has suffered a heart attack (although luckily quite minor), my journey has made me determined to as politely as possible, spread the message that you are what you eat and that your genetics don’t necessarily control your outcome. You don’t have to die or you don’t have to be fat because everyone else around you is that way. Break the mould, be you, be what you want to be.

Once I started on a Plant Based journey, the more research I undertook, the more information I absorbed, the more awareness I gained, I ultimately found myself associating as VEGAN

But whether you call it Plant Based, Whole Foods Plant Based or VEGAN is up to you. Don’t call it anything, it can just be what you do

My journey went something like this:

  1. Worked A Lot, High Stress, Smoked, Ate Badly, Poor Sleep (loved my job but it and me were killing me)
  2. Knew already, but eventually acknowledged to myself that I had major health issues and there was no miracle cure (or was there)
  3. Needed to do something about it not only for me but for my family
  4. Thought it was a bit to late, the damage was done and my genetics were bad

Often as people approach number 3 though, it’s pretty late in the peace and you might have been at this for 30, 40 or 50 years, so we are not talking about small amounts of damage. At that time you are starting to look for a hail mary type pass.

The thing is…….. it’s never too late. Every cigarette you don’t have, every amount of animal products you don’t eat are all better than having every bit you could have.

“Each time you don’t eat animal products and your system clears out the by products, it recovers and begins making good. Your body doesn’t give up trying, so neither should you.”

Inadvertently Vegan

Over 4 years in now and I’m not malnourished, I’m not lacking in protein, my levels are fine, I’m healthier than I have ever been, my recovery from exercise is short and to be honest I don’t really get sick anymore. Excluding of course the major underlying health conditions we are slowly walking back from the cliff edge over time. Those ones aren’t an overnight fix btw.

Wow Moments!

When you get through a large amount of the literature including books, documentaries, journals, papers and internet research, you come to a pretty significant realisation.

Food companies for the most part don’t care about the negative effects their products might have on you, they just need to sell more products to make more money. You’re paying them so you can eat it lets not forget you eat it because you want to. Food science and the science of taste is a whole different topic on its own.

Your weekly trip to the grocery store is about choice. You choose what to buy, you choose what to eat, you choose what to put in your body.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified processed meats including ham, bacon, salami and frankfurts as a Group 1 carcinogen (known to cause cancer) which means that there’s strong evidence that processed meats cause cancer. Eating processed meat increases your risk of bowel and stomach cancer. Red meat, such as beef, lamb and pork, has been classified as a Group 2A carcinogen which means it probably causes cancer.”

CANCER COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS

“Cut out processed meats altogether or keep them to an absolute minimum. Processed meats include bacon, ham, devon, frankfurts, chorizo, cabanossi and kransky.”

Also consider the word ‘probably‘ is a strong word for the WHO. They haven’t said could, they said ‘probably’ which is firmly over the 50/50 mark.

WFPB and Vegan lifestyles are NOT:

  • ….just about animal cruelty
  • ….about self righteous individuals expounding their single minded viewpoint
  • ….about limiting your choice or your right to choose

WFPB and Vegan lifestyles ARE:

  • ….about choice
  • ….about freedom
  • ….about making the world a better place
  • ….about saving the environment
  • ….about making you, the healthiest you, that you can be

Make one night per week Plant Based night. When you get comfortable with that, make it two nights a week. Have a go at three nights a week for a 1-2 months.

We ended up here because I was a numpty that eventually found my way through the false advertising, misinformation and stereotypes to discover I’m better not eating any of that, ever and I want to help other people discover that sooner rather than later.

We ended up here because I want to provide you with awesome, tasty, easy recipes and easy to digest information that can help you to become Inadvertently Vegan too.

You choose, that’s the beauty of it. All I can ask is that you try it.
